Description

Ideal to touch up short, straight hair, beards, moustaches and other fringes, The Traditionalist - The First cousin pocket comb unfailingly restores perfection to the hair.
This comb easily slips into a bag or big pocket and is available in two perfect shades: tortoiseshell or sand. With soft, slightly angular lines, this comb of the Officine Universelle Buly will tame and smooth stubborn swirls wherever the owner is.

There is historical evidence for the existence of pocket combs made of bone or wood in more or less refined shapes for centuries. Dating from 8,000 BC, the first one was discovered during archaeological digs in Scandinavia. These small-sized combs were then donned in beautiful finery, chiselled in gold or silver and adorned with patterns or engravings. In some cultures and in other eras, customised in all possible ways, this everyday beauty object also served as a lucky charm or amulet.

This comb is handcrafted in Switzerland by one of the last manufacturers in Europe. Cut from a block of very high-quality acetate, it is shaped, sculpted and then polished. The teeth and notches are especially arranged so as not to injure the hair. A plant fibre, the acetate reveals a unique pattern specific to each comb.
This luxurious object is stored in our famous velvet pouches to be transported safely.

“Comb my hair. Just one stroke. And wet my hair with Cologne…”

The Officine's prowess

This is undoubtedly an exercise resulting from the principles of goldsmithing. Twelve steps are necessary to manufacture each comb of the Officine Universelle Buly. The process begins with the cutting of acetate according to the template of the chosen model. The shaping then consists of adjusting the acetate to the design of the comb. Polishing and dulling are then necessary steps to round off the angles and sharpen the teeth. The manufacture of the comb continues with the meticulous making of the teeth: the acetate is sawed to draw the teeth that are then faceted.
Ultimate beauty treatment: the sanding smoothes the surface and rounds the tips of the teeth. Lastly, the comb is brushed.
The steam bath gives shine and the polishing carried out by the expert hands of the craftsman complete this high-quality product of great merit.

Advice for Use & Care

Softness and dexterity are the key words of a successful disentangling operation: it is unnecessary to force your way or to comb too frankly.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

This comb can be cleaned with a cloth and a little water.
A little trick known to all eyewear manufacturers, being a natural fibre, acetate must be hydrated twice a year with a rich texture such as shea or coconut butter.

It is recommended to keep the acetate of this comb away from sudden changes in temperature or high temperatures (direct sunlight, hot water).

Composition

Cellulose acetate is a luxurious material that was invented in 1865 by Paul Schützenberger then perfected at the very beginning of the 20th century by two Swiss chemists Camille and Henri Dreyfus. Extracted from cotton, this natural polymer has several intrinsic properties that make it the perfect component for the Officine combs: soft to the touch, it is perfectly resistant to water and the passage of time.
