Description

The famed incenses from the Orthodox monasteries perched atop Mount Athos in Macedonia, Northern Greece, have been produced since the 10th century with fragrant resins from Ethiopia and Eritrea. Mixed, dried, and ground, they bring fragrance to the preparations burned during services and prayer.

On Mount Athos, commonly named “Holy Mountain”, on the Chalkidike Peninsula, time has come to a halt. On its steep, rocky slopes, Orthodox monks live in twenty monasteries. For more than a millennium, Mount Athos has enjoyed the special status of “Monastic Republic of Mount Athos”. Perfumed incense is made by monks in a few monasteries, following centuries-old techniques.

Since the dawn of time, humankind has been burning incense and resins to elevate the surrounding atmosphere. There has always been something inscrutable, magical and spiritual about this ritual, probably because of the flame consuming the incense, slowly, but also because of the smoke, bewitching, surreal, drawing whirling patterns towards the sky. The rising smoke becomes a mysterious and fragrant path paving the way between gods and men.

Byzantine: Fresh, intense, “Byzantine” carries the magnificence of a garden in spring inside the silent cathedral, with notes of mystical honey and aromatic herbs.

Exoklisi: Mysterious, fresh, “Exoklisi” exhales a green, springlike scent and soothes the senses. Honeysuckle, straight from medieval gardens, mingles with almond, basil and aromatic herbs.

Night Flower: Powerful, enthralling, aromatic, “Night Flower” brings forth a bunch of white flowers made of magnolia, lily and jasmine, these beautiful, ephemeral queens which blossom in the summer nights. Soothing, delicate, Night Flower discloses an invitation to hedonism in its spirals of smoke.

Fern: Green, refreshing, “Fern” brings forth the scents of a summer night, where lavender is shrouded in sensual flowers in full blossom, aromatic herbs, and oak moss, perked up with notes of lemon and spices.

Gardenia: Floral, lively, “Gardenia” is an homage to the precious flower, also known as Cape jasmine. The delicate, regal heart is in good company, with violet and its powdery notes.
Jasmine: Powerful, floral, “Jasmine” brings forth an essence of the precious white flower from the Himalayas. Bewitching jasmine now also blooms on the Mediterranean shores and symbolizes radiant happiness. - -

Magnolia: Floral, light, “Magnolia” exhales the sunny notes of the mysterious, sensual white flower. With its notes of vanilla, the scent, reminiscent of jasmine, evokes the festive mood of springtime.

Myros: Fresh, bright, “Myros” brings forth the majestic sacred scent of myrrh, shrouded in a gentle cloud of mint and lemon, and balanced with oriental notes of clove and other spices.

Nazareth: Powdery, spiritual, “Nazareth” fervently indulges in the sweetness of Middle Eastern pastries, the spicy fragrance of cinnamon and clove, and a touch of orange rind.

Orchid: Intense, floral, “Orchid” explores the mysteries of the tropical flower, bright in both colour and scent. Uniquely elegant, orchids are linked to eternal femininity.

Heavens Scent: Powerful, floral, “Heavens Scent” is one of the most loved fragrances in the range. With its enthralling, deep notes of flowers and spices, it brings up the memory of ancient Egyptian and Middle-Eastern monasteries.

Springtime: Fresh, floral, “Springtime” opens on a glimmering bouquet of violets, lilac and lily, emblematic flowers of the season of renewal and celebration.

Rose: “Rose” is the first scent ever created by the monks. Floral, voluptuous, sophisticated, it evokes a baroque, generous bouquet of roses and carnation, lightly spiced with cloves.

Sparta: Subtle, bright, pure, “Sparta” lights the atmosphere with the summery scent of citrus fruits. The fresh scent is associated with woody notes of resin, instantly transporting on a chair, at sunset, under the fragrant shade of a lemon tree.

Advice for Use & Care

Intensely fragrant, Mount Athos incense can be burned on a piece of coal or used in a potpourri in a bowl.

You will want to consume the incense perfectly, not let it melt. Wait a few minutes till the lit coal has turned gray before you put the resin drops on it. This way, the incense will stay hard and diffuse its scent properly in the atmosphere.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Store the incense in a sealed box to keep it dry.
