These wood chips come from a Japanese Cypress, and exude a resinous fragrance, lighter than that of the Cedar tree, delicately citrussy, and extremely relaxing.
A treasure among scented woods, aomori hiba is called “tree of life” in Japan, due to its outstanding longevity and almost supernatural resilience in the harshest climates. Precious, with a pale gold colour, this cypress wood indigenous to Japan emits a citrussy scent, like a light cedar fragrance, soothing for the spirit and conducive to well-being.
The wood also possesses antibacterial and deodorizing properties, and is used to purify the air in the home. The Japanese enumerate these many therapeutic virtues, akin to those of its cousin, Hinoki wood – whose slow growth takes centuries. This legendary material is also used to build temples.
