The fruit of the encounter between Man and Nature, potpourri has been used since the dawn of time to sublimate small spaces with a fragrant waltz. From Prehistory to Antiquity, and through the reigns of great monarchies, these mixtures—simple in appearance but complex in composition—were used to crown the air, intoxicate sacred places, or even refresh a cleavage. Natural materials, herbs, shavings, resins, dried flowers, and roots combined their enchanting and unique accords into a powerful final bouquet: the potpourri.
Although its name does it no justice, potpourri is a fabulous way to diffuse perfume indoors, scenting drawers, hallways, the edge of a bath or the contents of a suitcase. A true “Madeleine de Proust”, potpourri easily conjures up memories of a family home where every wardrobe and corner held its own mysterious sachet. The details of its perfume were left to the discretion of its owner, but there was a strong tendency towards powerful lavender in summer and the famous cinnamon sticks in winter.
The Universal Potpourri Bois des Alpilles borrows from Provence all its sunny, comforting splendour to release its aniseed, spicy, citrus notes, without ever overpowering its surroundings.
Protected from prying eyes and from the elements by its small cotton pouch, it can be discreetly placed in a drawer to perfume the contents: bed linen and intimate treasures.
