Description

Ideal for shining and smoothing curly hair without breaking curls, the Le Bel Ami comb restores its magnificence.
This comb of the Officine will masterfully coax the hair, whether it is curly, coarse or frizzy. Its eight beautiful teeth with straight shapes and wide spacing make disentangling smoother. Equipped with a small handle, its design is particularly harmonious. If Le Bel Ami is suitable for long, thick, curly, coarse or frizzy hair, it is also used to style and detangle long, smooth and fine hair quickly and gently. A true “hair jewel”, it can also be used as an adornment to fix the most dazzling buns and is available in two shades: tortoiseshell or ivory. Good-sized, this comb still easily slips into a bag. Its seductive lines make it one of the Officine’s most popular combs and a perfect gift.

This comb is handcrafted in Switzerland by one of the last manufacturers in Europe. Cut from a block of very high quality acetate, it is shaped, sculpted and then polished. The teeth and notches are especially arranged so as not to injure the hair. A plant fibre, the acetate reveals a unique pattern specific to each comb.
This luxurious object is stored in our famous velvet pouches to be transported safely.

“He had a fund of small talk, a pleasant voice, a caressing glance and his moustache was irresistible. Crisp and curly, it curved charmingly over his lip, fair with auburn tints, slightly paler where it bristled at the ends.”
Guy de Maupassant, Bel-Ami

The Officine's prowess

This is undoubtedly an exercise resulting from the principles of goldsmithing. Twelve steps are necessary to manufacture each comb of the Officine Universelle Buly. The process begins with the cutting of acetate according to the template of the chosen model. The shaping then consists of adjusting the acetate to the design of the comb. Polishing and dulling are then necessary steps to round off the angles and sharpen the teeth. The manufacture of the comb continues with the meticulous making of the teeth: the acetate is sawed to draw the teeth that are then faceted.
Ultimate beauty treatment: the sanding smoothes the surface and rounds the tips of the teeth. Lastly, the comb is brushed.
The steam bath gives shine and the polishing carried out by the expert hands of the craftsman complete this high quality product of great merit.

Advice for Use & Care

Softness and dexterity are the key words of a successful disentangling operation: it is unnecessary to force your way or to comb too frankly.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

This comb can be cleaned with a cloth and a little water.
A little trick known to all eyewear manufacturers, being a natural fibre, acetate must be hydrated twice a year with a rich texture such as shea or coconut butter.

It is recommended to keep the acetate of this comb away from sudden changes in temperature or high temperatures (direct sunlight, hot water).

Composition

Cellulose acetate, a luxurious material, was invented in 1865 by Paul Schützenberger and then perfected at the very beginning of the 20th century by two Swiss chemists Camille and Henri Dreyfus. This biopolymer, based on cotton, has several properties that make it the perfect component for Officine combs: soft to the touch, it is perfectly resistant to water and the passage of time.
