During “Les Journées Particulières LVMH”, in the spirit of the European Heritage Days, our Parisian lifestyle institution, through skilfully crafted and engaging calligraphy classes, will introduce participants to the handling of letters and the art of forming them beautifully. Under the kindly, watchful guidance of our master instructors, those with a curious mind will be able to practise this vanishing art on vellum paper using period quills.

The calligraphy introductory class will enable you to master the famous “upstrokes” and “downstrokes” that are so emblematic of English cursive calligraphy. Widely used in France from the eighteenth century, successor to the Cancellaresca (Chancellery) and the Italian Bâtarde of previous centuries, the Anglaise is the descendant of Dutch master writers such as Jan Van Den Velde and Ambrosius Perling. It was then appreciated for its professional application in the business world, as well as its utilitarian and refined aspect. Endowed with undeniable aesthetic qualities, a romanticism cradled by arabesques, interlacing... now within reach of quills and inkwells.
