The slender

Bangs are only as good as their length: those that are too short cease to be worthy of the name, while those that are too long make you blind. L’Officine Universelle Buly recommends keeping this slender comb beside your dressing table, for one last DIY touch-up before stepping out.

NB: the lock of hair that covers the eyes has been terribly passé since Brigitte Bardot ca. 1956.

Description

Ideal to touch up huge, short, asymmetrical or blinding fringes, Le Gracile comb restores magnificence with just one stroke.
This exclusive comb of the Officine has taken on a very elongated look to better soften the rebellious lock. Small in size, it easily slips into a bag or a big pocket and is available in three shades: tortoiseshell, ivory or yellow amber. Its impeccable lines make it one of the most popular combs among lovers of beautiful things, curiosities and other aesthetes.

This comb is handcrafted in Switzerland by one of the last manufacturers in Europe. Cut from a block of very high quality acetate, it is shaped, sculpted and then polished. The teeth and notches are especially arranged so as not to injure the hair. A plant fibre, the acetate reveals a unique pattern specific to each comb.
This luxurious object is stored in our famous velvet pouches to be transported safely.

“For years I had my hair parted down the middle in a ponytail, tucked down around the sides... Well, I went and cut the bangs, and I've been wearing them ever since. They say it's my trademark.”

The Officine's prowess

This is undoubtedly an exercise resulting from the principles of goldsmithing. Twelve steps are necessary to manufacture each comb of the Officine Universelle Buly. The process begins with the cutting of acetate according to the template of the chosen model. The shaping then consists of adjusting the acetate to the design of the comb. Polishing and dulling are then necessary steps to round off the angles and sharpen the teeth. The manufacture of the comb continues with the meticulous making of the teeth: the acetate is sawed to draw the teeth that are then faceted.
Ultimate beauty treatment: the sanding smoothes the surface and rounds the tips of the teeth. Lastly, the comb is brushed.
The steam bath gives shine and the polishing carried out by the expert hands of the craftsman complete this high quality product of great merit.

Advice for Use & Care

Softness and dexterity are the key words of a successful disentangling operation: it is unnecessary to force your way or to comb too frankly.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

This comb can be cleaned with a cloth and a little water.
A little trick known to all eyewear manufacturers, being a natural fibre, acetate must be hydrated twice a year with a rich texture such as shea or coconut butter.

It is recommended to keep the acetate of this comb away from sudden changes in temperature or high temperatures (direct sunlight, hot water).

Composition

Cellulose acetate, a luxurious material, was invented in 1865 by Paul Schützenberger and then perfected at the very beginning of the 20th century by two Swiss chemists Camille and Henri Dreyfus. This biopolymer, based on cotton, has several properties that make it the perfect component for Officine combs: soft to the touch, it is perfectly resistant to water and the passage of time.
